Civic issues
Topics getting the most attention in Rancho Cordova public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
Zoning Code Amendment — Article 9 Specific Use Provisions (Section 23.901.060)
A package of housekeeping changes to the city's development rules — noise standards for all residential uses, drive-through permit requirements in commercial zones, front-yard paving limits, equipment screening, sign rules, and how many kitchens a single-family home needs. The commission recommends it; the City Council has the final say.
Planning Commission Process and Conflict-of-Interest Allegations
Speakers alleged planning commissioners held undisclosed pre-hearing meetings with the developer and that Mayor Gatewood has a personal interest in the project and should recuse himself. The city attorney said no recusals are required and found no evidence of Brown Act violations.
ADU ordinance update and state compliance
The city is updating its ADU ordinance to match new state law after an HCD compliance letter. An advocacy group letter raised more questions, so the update was pushed to August 12 to get it right the first time.
General Plan Update Preferred Land Use Alternative
The city is updating its 2006-era General Plan to guide growth through 2050. The choice of land use alternative decides how dense housing can get in office parks, along Folsom Boulevard and near light rail, where a new downtown goes, and how shopping centers can be redeveloped. It will also kick off the Environmental Impact Report and the next phase of goals and policies.
